Day of Fasting & Prayer - September 9, 2020
BACK TO SCHOOL
Families have been navigating new normals for months in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but this is the first time they will be heading "back-to-school" in unfamiliar and unprecedented ways. Starting a new school year often comes with uncertainty and anxiety for kids and parents but this year even more so. So let’s take this day to fast, pray and intercede for the following:
STUDENTS, that God would ease their anxiety or their apathy about going back to school amidst the pandemic. We pray for safety for those returning to in-person classes, and for the needed technology, self-discipline, and adult oversight for those learning online. Lord would you ensure that every child has enough to eat, a supportive network of friends and family, and perseverance to face every challenge with Your strength?
PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS, that the Lord would grant them wisdom about which schooling option to choose. We pray for God’s provision physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. We pray for the Lord to provide a support system that they can turn to when the challenges of life are overwhelming. We pray for churches and believers to surround local families with more prayer and support this year than ever before.
TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF, that God would grant them supernatural peace and discernment. Lets pray for wisdom for school district leaders, and for the safety of every staff person on every school campus. May our communities rally around our schools to provide the sanitization, supplies, and emotional support needed by our teachers and school staff as they educate our children.
No matter the circumstances surrounding your return back-to-school, we can find peace and encouragement in the truth of God's Word. Here are some Bible verses to pray together as a family, or to encourage your kids (or yourself) about the new school year!
Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.1 Corinthians 16:14 (NLT)
And do everything with love.Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law against these things!”Luke 6:31 (NLT)
Do to others as you would like them to do to you.Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and do depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do and he will show you which path to take.”Colossians 3:23 (NLT)
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
