The Holy Spirit is at Work.
Lately, we have been teaching and preaching about the Holy Spirit. We are living in the epoch of time or dispensation known as the Church Age. It was inaugurated by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) and will continue until the rapture of the church (1 Thess. 4:13-18). The key feature of the Church Age is the working of the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirt. So understanding who He is, what He does and is doing is paramount.
Let me illustrate. You see it’s the Holy Spirit who initially draws us to want to know about Christ. Then as The Spirit of Truth, he reveals God’s Word to our hearts. When we make the choice to believe in Jesus, it’s the Spirit’s power that regenerates our dead spirit and makes us spiritually alive (born again) and comes to take up residence in our hearts and lives. Then at our request, He comes to immerse us in Him (baptism of the Holy Spirit) so that we are empowered to live righteously for Christ and to be his witnesses and ambassadors of the gospel message to others. Everything that happens spiritually in our lives as believers and the church is a work of the Holy Spirit. That’s why His presence and power is so important, valuable and to be sought after!
As we fast and pray, let’s seek the Lord for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our lives. We need the ‘fire’ of the Holy Spirit to purify our lives of sin and ungodliness. We need the ‘wind’ of the Spirit, His unseen power, to blow and to take us to new places spiritually in our lives, and corporately as His church. We need the fresh ‘oil’ of the Spirit to anoint us to do the work of the ministry in these challenging days. We need to experience afresh God’s glory, descending upon us like a cloud that we might experience the fullness of God’s presence. Let’s pray into these dimensions of the Holy Spirit’s workings, and believe together for fresh touch of the Spirit’s presence and power in our lives and the church!
