Day 17 - 21 Days of Fasting & Prayer

Morning

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Evening

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

WHEN I FIGHT TEMPTATION TO WALK IN THE FLESH

Morning

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Lord, when I am tempted, show me what it is that is drawing me away from you. I praise you in the midst of any temptation I am facing, knowing you have the power to break its hold on me.

Help me to "walk in the Spirit" so that I will "not fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16). Lord, I know that "it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith" (Galatians 2:20).

Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10) so that I can worship you with a pure heart.

Evening

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Lord, I worship you as my Lord and Savior. I praise you, Holy Spirit, that you live in me and enable me to move in the Spirit and not the flesh.

I confess all my sins before you and repent of them. I don't want any sin in my life. God, help me to trust your ways and love your laws enough to always obey them.

Help me to have such faith in your goodness that obeying your commands and directives is never even a question for me. Enable me to live in obedience. "Make me walk in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it" (Psalm 119:35).

It amazes me, Lord, that you love me so much that you would sacrifice yourself so I could be forgiven completely.

Day 12 - 21 Days of Fasting & Prayer

Morning

James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Evening

1 Peter 4:12-13
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

WHEN I SEE THINGS GOING WRONG AND I FEEL POWERLESS

Morning

James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Lord, as I go through tough times when everything seems to be going wrong, I draw near to you and disengage from the concerns of this life. I thank you that you are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think, according to your power that works in me (Ephesians 3:20).

I worship you, God of grace, and thank you that after I have suffered a while, you will perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle me (1 Peter 5:10-11).

I praise you for your power and thank you that you pour power into my life in great measure. I worship you, Father of mercy and comfort, and thank you that you comfort me in my times of trial.

Evening

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

Lord, I praise your name. I exalt you above all things. You are my King and Lord. In the midst of everything that is happening in my life and all that I am going through, I know that you are the all-powerful God of the universe.

Hide me in your secret place in my time of struggle. Lift me high upon a rock so that I may rise above the plans of my enemies to surround me with problems. I will sing and offer you the sacrifice of praise (Psalm 27:5-6).

You are my help, and I will hide myself in you. I praise you for all that you are. "My soul follows close behind you; your right hand upholds me" (Psalm 63:8).

WHEN I DON’T SEE ANSWERS TO MY PRAYERS

Morning

Hebrews 10:35-36 (NLT)
So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Lord, I know that what I may see as unanswered prayer may not be unanswered at all. It means that you are answering according to your will. Whether I understand your will or not doesn’t affect the fact that I trust it and praise you for it.

Thank you for your unfailing Word and that you always keep your promises to me. I thank you that your power is infinite. Your judgments and your Will are perfect, and I trust them.

Whether or not my prayers are answered the way I pray them, I will praise and worship you above all things. For you are my Wonderful Counselor, my Everlasting Father, my Stronghold in the Day of Trouble, and my Resting Place. I rest in you today.

Evening

Colossians 4:2 (NLT)
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

Lord, I worship and praise you, as the all-knowing and all-powerful God of the universe. You are Immanuel, God with us. Thank you that you are always with me. Thank you that your presence frees me from all doubt and gives me increased faith.

Thank you that you hear my prayers and will answer in your time and in your way. You, Lord, are without limitations. I don’t want to limit your working in my life by my own faithlessness.

Help me to “be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12). I know that you have called me to pray, but I also know that answering prayers is your job. Help my heart to rest in you.

Day 10 - 21 Days of Fasting & Prayer

Morning

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Evening

1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT)
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

WHEN I STRUGGLE WITH DOUBT

Morning

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Lord, it is by faith, we stand (2 Corinthians 1:24). I want to have so much faith that I am fully convinced that whatever you have promised to me, you will also be able to perform in my life (Romans 4:21).

I know that faith is a gift from you, and I pray that my faith, no matter how it is tested by fire, will glorify you and bring all the praise and honour and glory that belong to you.

Thank you that you have given me your Word whereby my faith can be increased. Help me to grow in my understanding of it. May your Word be so mixed with my faith that it will glorify you (Hebrews 4:2).

Evening

1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT)

So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

I worship you, Almighty God, and give you all the glory that is due your name. I praise you, Lord of heaven and earth, and thank you that with you all things are possible. The things that are impossible with men are possible with you (Luke 18:27).

Thank you that you give faith as a gift to those who ask. Because of you, I don’t have to live in doubt. I ask you to increase my faith to believe for bigger and greater things.

Help me to always “ask in faith, with no doubting.”

May I never be like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind because I have doubt. (James 1:6-8)

Morning

Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)
Long ago the LORD said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

Lord, you are all I desire. Just being with you changes everything in me. Longing for you makes me long to be free of anything that would draw my attention away. I draw close to you this day. Thank you that you promise to draw close to me.

With you I am never alone. I love your holiness, Lord. I love your beauty. With joy I draw water from the wells of your salvation (Isaiah 12:3).

Help me to make you the first place I run to when I have longings in my heart. I don’t want to waste time turning to other things that will never satisfy the need I have for intimacy with you. My soul waits for you, Lord (Psalm 33:20).

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is yours. (1 Chronicles 29:11)

I know that by the power of your Spirit, all things are possible. I give you thanks, “O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because you have taken your great power and reigned.” (Revelation 11:17)

“Be exalted, O Lord, in your own strength!” (Psalm 21:13)

Great are you Lord, and mighty in power; your understanding is infinite. (Psalm 147:5)

I know that because you can do anything, no plan or purpose of yours for my life can be held back.

“You have a mighty arm” (Psalm 89:13), and you rule by your power (Psalm 65:6).

Day of Fasting & Prayer - December 3, 2021

Welcome to December and the celebration of the advent of God’s Son who came into our world to light the night!

Because of the Fall of Adam and Eve, our world was plunged into spiritual darkness, and that has been passed on to us all. But God had a plan before the creation of the world to send a Light into our darkness. The promises and prophecies were given of this coming Light throughout the Old Testament. People lived by faith believing and looking forward to the coming of this Messiah. In this Christmas season, we celebrate again that same anticipation that filled their hearts.

Let's Light The Night!

Then it happened!

The Light of the World came!

The Son of God took on a human body and entered our world to also become the Son of Man. Jesus came with the express purpose of representing us and paying the price for our sins by dying on the cross. He not only came to enter our world but ultimately to enter our hearts and lives as our Saviour and Lord. Christ came to dwell richly in our hearts by faith and to change and transforms us to live like Him and for Him.

Jesus came to be a light that would reveal God to the nations. God does that through believers called to reflect that light to our current dark world. As we celebrate Jesus, the light of the world, let’s fast and pray that God will help us Light the Night. Through our witness and acts of kindness, many more will come to the knowledge of the truth and find Jesus this Christmas season!

Scriptures

1 John 1:5 (NLT)
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

John 8:12 (NLT)
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Ephesians 5:8-9 (NLT)
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.

Psalm 27:1 (NLT)
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

Psalm 112:4 (NLT)
Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.

John 1:4-5 (NLT)
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Shorter days, cooler weather, and the changing colours of leaves all signal that we are transitioning from one major season to another. And before you know it, you will be preparing for Christmas – by filling an Operation Christmas Child shoebox (how is that for a reminder)! We have been in a season of constant trials and difficulties and no one knows exactly what is coming next. Is your faith prepared to withstand whatever comes our way? Everything from normal stresses of daily life to the compounded current challenges want to shake our faith. We must develop an unshakeable faith that will keep us standing through all the storms of life and persecution for our faith.

Building an unshakeable faith

In nature, October typically launches a significant change in weather conditions.

The Apostle Peter’s life is an interesting study in how unshakeable faith develops. Peter who is called to be a disciple of Christ, denies knowing Jesus at his crucifixion, but is then restored by Jesus after His resurrection, and filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. This is a man who faith was transformed from shaky to unshakeable. There are several characteristics God instilled in his faith as Peter walked with Him and that we need to ask God to develop in us:

Become Secure in the God Who Loves and Chooses You – If you are a Christian you are a child of God! Have you ever seriously contemplated the implications of that truth? God choose you for Himself. He picked you out and said, “You are mine!” God loves you with an unfailing love that reaches to the heavens. Truly accepting this truth can sustain you through those times when you feel lonely, rejected, unloved, or betrayed. No matter who else may turn away from you, God never will.

Become Confident in Your AllPowerful, All-Knowing, Sovereign God – God is bigger than any trial or problem life may throw at you. Nothing touches your life that He doesn’t know about. He is able to use whatever trial He allows into your life to strengthen your faith and shape your character. He has the power and authority to remove it or use it, and walk with you through it. Just hang on tightly to Him!

Be Submitted to the One Who Knows the Future and Has a Plan – Why do we argue with and resist the One who knows everything our future holds? Our all-knowing God has a plan for your life and mine. Our pain and trials do not surprise Him. But we still want to try to do things our way and control our own lives. Seems a little silly when we stop and consider who God really is. When we submit every area of our lives to God – even the heartache – He will work His plan in His way.

Prepared to Endure Persecution for the Sake of Christ – About the only thing not tolerated in our tolerant society these days is Christianity. Jesus warned us that persecution would come. It may be difficult, but God promises unique blessings for those who endure it. Suffering persecution because you belong to God will result in a fuller, richer knowledge of Christ. Decide now that you will not deny your Lord!

Scriptures

1 Peter 1:2-8 (NLT)
2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

1 Peter 3:13-17 (NLT)
13 Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. 15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. 17 Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!

1 Peter 4:12-13 (NLT)
12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. 13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

Day of Fasting & Prayer - October 1, 2021

In nature, October typically launches a significant change in weather conditions. Shorter days, cooler weather, and the changing colours of leaves all signal that we are transitioning from one major season to another. And before you know it, you will be preparing for Christmas – by filling an Operation Christmas Child shoebox (how is that for a reminder)!

Preparing For What Is Next

In nature, October typically launches a significant change in weather conditions. Shorter days, cooler weather, and the changing colours of leaves all signal that we are transitioning from one major season to another. And before you know it, you will be preparing for Christmas – by filling an Operation Christmas Child shoebox (how is that for a reminder)!

Jesus used the weather in another analogy, Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.
(Luke 12:54-56, NLT)

Do we know how to interpret the present times? Do we understand what season we are in, according to God’s plans and purposes as described in the Word of God? May we be wise in our understanding of the present times and how to prepare for what’s to come.

Jesus also used the analogy of weather to make a spiritual point when addressing the Pharisees and Sadducees, the religious leaders of the day. They were testing Jesus and asking for a sign from heaven to prove His authority and that He was the Messiah. He said, “... You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times.” (Matthew 16:2-3, NLT). Jesus makes the point that though they knew how to interpret weather signs, they seemed ignorant of the fact that the kingdom of God had come to them in the person of Himself—Jesus Christ.

Do we understand the signs of our times? Do we understand what season we are living in at this time of history? Do we perceive what is coming next and how to prepare for it?

Our prayer theme for the month of October is Preparing For What Is Coming Next. Together let’s ask God to show us the signs of the times and how to interpret the present season and prepare accordingly. Because Jesus Christ is He is calling the whosoever will, He is preparing His bride, and He is coming for His church!

Scriptures

Luke 12:54-56 (NLT)
54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. 55 When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. 56 You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.

Matthew 16:2-3 (NLT)

2 He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!

Malachi 3:1-4 (NLT)

“Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes. He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the Lord. Then once more the Lord will accept the offerings brought to him by the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as he did in the past.

Matthew 25:1-13 (NLT)
25 “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids[a] who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’

“All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’

“But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’

12 “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’

13 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

Jehovah M’kaddesh, wash me and refine me daily. In Jesus’ name going forward, I will be prepared for the kingdom of God here on earth for the kingdom of God to come. I declare that the kingdom of God will not elude me and my household. I declare that the blessings of God will not elude me. I declare that I will end well. So shall it be.
